Outdoor movies are a unique summer experience, giving people a reason to come together and enjoy the warmest season. Tucked away in the center of the city, ClujHUB’s garden is the perfect place to host an open-air cinema event. Together with our friends from the Deutsches Kulturzentrum Klausenburg (Centrul Cultural German Cluj-Napoca) we invite you to enjoy a series of screenings in an excellent outdoor setting.
For the fourth event of the series which will take place on August 31, starting with 19:30 (the screening starts at 20:00) we chose a 2003 feature. Goodbye Lenin is a tragicomedy directed by Wolfgang Becker, with the internationally renowned Daniel Brühl playing the main character.
The film is set in the East Berlin of 1989. To protect his fragile mother from a fatal shock after a long coma, a young man, Alexander, must keep her from learning that her beloved nation of East Germany, as she knew, has disappeared. Despite everything, the mother occasionally witnesses strange occurrences, such as a gigantic Coca-Cola advertisement banner unfurling on a building outside the apartment. Alexander and a friend with film-making ambitions edit old tapes of news broadcasts and create their own fake special reports to explain them away. Thus, the film is a commentary about truth and deception but is also a comedy and an exercise in nostalgia.
And if you are a fan of the music from Amélie, you will also enjoy the soundtrack from this film because it was composed by the one and only Yann Tiersen.
The movie is in German, with English subtitles.
Needless to say, watching an outdoor movie at the open-air cinema is a truly memorable experience that should be on your bucket list this summer. Bring your friends, we will provide the popcorn and the refreshments for a contribution of 15 lei.
The seats are limited, so if you want to join our gathering please register here.
